The exotic islands of Bazaruto, Benguerra, Magaruque and Santa boast over one thousand species of coral in their surrounding turquoise waters, making them a snorkelling and scuba diving paradise.

Inhambane City
With a rich history dating as far back to the 10th century, the exquisite coastal town of Inhambane features a unique legacy born from a combination of African, old-world Portuguese and Muslim cultures. A number of historical sites give insight into the city’s diverse and tumultuous past, and include a 200-year-old Cathedral, the Governor's Palace, the museum and market, where slaves, ivory, gold and spices were once traded.

Hire a traditional dhow and sail around the bay, or simply lounge on the idyllic beaches of Jangamo, Tofo, Tofinho and Barra, where snorkelling, fishing, surfing and water sports abound. Go on a dolphin and whale watching safari or dive below and explore the spectacular rock and coral formations of Manta Reef and Praia de Rocha.

Island of Mozambique
Recognised as a world heritage site, this former Portuguese trading-post is an enchanting maze of narrow streets fringed by tall buildings with a bustling harbour and market. Of particular interest is the 7th century palace museum, crammed with old cannons, muskets, sedan chairs and other memorabilia gathered by the Portuguese colonialists from round the world.

Maputo
African meets Mediterranean in the sprawling city of Maputo, Mozambique’s premier town. Busy markets, bustling street cafes, a developing hospitality industry and a vibrant nightlife make Maputo an exciting and welcoming experience for the outgoing traveller. Cultural must-sees include The Museum of the Revolution and National Art Museum with its collection of the country’s contemporary artists, as well as the old Fort on Praça 25 de Junho.
